Business Coaching
- using validated behavioral change techniques and tools
Business Coaching  - and behavioral change
The ability of the business coach to translate behavioral feedback into an action plan is critical in creating an effective development plan for the executive. The business coach must be able to also determine the relationship between personal behavior and the organizational and business context in which the executive operates. Business coaching is all about achieving behavioral change and change is a psychological process. A successful, professional, ethical business coach has to understand, be confident and competent in the psychological aspects of business coaching and a master in the use of a range of behavioral change techniques and validated psychological-based tools that bring about genuine, lasting, measurable results. To do so requires personalized training, supervision and mentoring by a professionally qualified educator with psychological expertise is now a must  -as this not only provides the necessary business coaching credentials, skill sets and resources but also contributes to the coach’s learning and development -ensuring the business coach is working within his or her personal and professional limits of competence.

1) A Tool Master -this person has possession of, or has obtained limited technical mastery of one specific change and learning tool or model etc

2) A Toolkit Master -this practitioner has possession of, or has technically mastered the use of a number of general change and learning tools and models in their specific toolkit.

3) The Master Coach -this specialist change agent/coach has received the highest level of individual/personal instruction available in the use of a wide range of industry-proven coaching practices relevant to their area of practice. The Master Coach has undertaken 1-to-1 practical role plays with an experienced facilitator (educator/coach/behavioral scientist) -learning how to use the latest, validated behavioral change and learning tools and models. To obtain masterful experience in the application of their new skills and learning -this professional coach continues their professional development in "real-time" via a 1-to-1 post-course mentoring/support program (with their original instructing facilitator/coach who has now become their mentor). With this back-up professional support and their personal, advanced-level training and experience the Master Coach is also able to select the appropriate tool and model for a specific client intervention and deliver an accountable, measured successful outcome.

Business Coaching 3. - types of Business Coaching
As noted in the book, 'The Complete Guide to Coaching at Work', the authors (Skiffington and Zeus) have found the following typology of business coaching to be useful:

Business Coaching for skills helps the executive learn specific skills, abilities and perspectives over a period of several weeks or months. The skills to be learned are usually clear at the outset and are typically related to skills associated with an executive assuming new or different responsibilities.

Business Coaching for development refers to coaching interventions that explore and enhance the executive’s competencies and characteristics required for a future job or role. It can be associated with outplacements, restructuring and reengineering in the organization.

Business Coaching for performance focuses on the executive’s effectiveness in his or her current position. Frequently it involves coaching for one or more management or leadership competencies, such as communicating vision, team building or delegation.

Business Coaching for the executive’s agenda generally entails working with an executive on any personal or organizational concerns he or she may have. It can focus on issues surrounding the executive, such as change and company downsizing. Personal issues are more likely to arise in this type of coaching.

Business coaches can also work with training managers to formalize coaching in their leadership roles and become a "manager coach"

Business Coaching 4. - Business Coaching Courses
Business coaching is now recognized as the critical platform for business managers and executives to achieve successful behavioral change and learning. Successful business coaching is not a suitable domain for employing outdated, un-scientific, unproven, simplistic: coaching models, user-fits-all personality profiling, motivational dialogue etc. Only validated, behavioral scientific models, accelerated behavioral change techniques, competencies and behaviors identified in robust studies by leading academics are ever mentioned or used in Dr Skiffington's internationally recognized Certified Master Coach course.
